The Japanese multinational automaker, Nissan Motor Company Limited which is widely known as simply Nissan, had launched the Terrano SUV in the year of 2013 in India. This entry-level SUV is undoubtedly one of the most popular Nissan cars in India. The Nissan Terrano is a good looking and spacious car and comes in 7 variants, out of which only one is petrol car and rest are diesel cars.
The diesel trims of the Nissan Terrano are priced between Rs. 9.99 lakh to Rs. 13.15 lakh while the petrol trim of the Nissan Terrano is priced at Rs. 9,99,000. All prices are Ex-showroom, Delhi.
The Nissan Terrano competes with the Renault Duster, Mahindra XUV 500, Ford EcoSport, Force One, Tata Safari Storme and the Mahindra Scorpio.
ENGINE AND SPECIFICATIONS
The Nissan Terrano comes with three engine options- one 1.6-L petrol and two 1.5-L diesels. The Petrol engine is a 1.6-litre Multi Point Fuel Injection (MPFI) based engine, which comes with a displacement capacity of 1598 cc and generates 102 bhp of power at 5850 rpm along with 145 Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine mated with a five-speed manual transmission.
On the other hand, the 1.5-litre dCi diesel unit comes with two power options- 85 PS and the other more powerful 110 PS. The powerful versions displace 1461cc with a peak torque of 248 Nm at 2250 rpm, while the 85 PS offers 200 Nm of torque at 1900 rpm. The diesel engine comes mated with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed manual transmission. It is noteworthy that all three are front-wheel drive only.
As far as mileage is concerned, the 1.6-liter petrol engine offers a mileage of 13.2 kmpl while the 1.5-liter diesel engine gives a mileage of 19 kmpl and the same engine with the 85 PS power output delivers a mileage of 20.5kmpl, as the company claims.
The petrol engine takes 10 seconds to cross the 100 kmph mark from standstill with a top speed of 165 kmph. On the other end, the diesel engine takes 12 seconds to cross the 100 kmph mark from standstill with a top speed of 175 kmph.
EXTERIOR
The exterior of the Nissan Terrano looks similar to the Renault Duster though, it gets updated styling. The side profile of the vehicle is attractive and has angular bold lines which are different from the Renault Duster’s curvy lines. The strong front fascia of the Nissan Terrano features bold bonnet lines, all new grille, headlamps with a four pod design, revised bumper, silver skid plates and slightly modified roof rails while at the rear end, the SUV gets re-designed bumper with new alignment of reflectors, new tail light cluster and tail gate design and single colour body panels.
Besides, the top-end version of the Nissan Terrano gets sporty 16-inch alloy wheels while the base variant of the SUV gets steel rims. In addition, the 8-way adjustable driver’s seat makes the Nissan Terrano easy to find a perfect driving position.
Dimensionally, the Nissan Terrano measures 4.33 metre in length with a width of 1.83 metre. The overall height of the vehicle with the fixed roof rail is 1.67 metre and the wheelbase is of 2.67 metre. And, at the same time, the Nissan Terrano has a ground clearance of 205 mm, which is similar to that of the Renault Duster. The Nissan Terrano is available with a choice of 6 colours- Fire Red, Blade Silver, Pearl White, Bronze Grey, Sapphire Black and Sterling Grey.
INTERIOR
The interior of the 5 seater Nissan Terrano , too, looks familiar to that of the Renault Duster nevertheless it gets some substantial changes. The SUV has a roomy cabin which comprises of power adjustable side mirrors, tilt steering wheel, black door trim finish, multi function display, keyless entry, power windows, adjustable front seat headrest, integrated rear seat headrest, 4-speed A/C, front center roof light with timer, pollen filter, seat back pockets for both front seats and a 4-speaker music system with Bluetooth, USB and AUX connectivity.
Boot Space
Besides, the SUV does have an analog speedometer and the speedo console which is easy to read in day and night. The Nissan Terrano has a spacious glove box, two cup holders in front of the gear lever and a 475 liter of boot space. The car also provides sufficient headroom and comfortable arm rests in each door.
PERFORMANCE
No doubt, the Nissan Terrano offers a smooth and composed ride no matter how bad the road is. The handling is also nice and, at the same time, the braking capabilities of the SUV is robust and the front discs brakes and rear drum brakes stop it instantly.
