The Quanto is a compact SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) which was launched in the year of 2012 by the home grown automaker Mahindra and Mahindra Limited. As a matter of fact, the Mahindra Quanto is based on the company’s own Multi Utility Vehicle- the Xylo, hence it is also popularly known as the mini-Xylo. Measuring under four metres, the Mahindra Quanto is available only in diesel version with four models- C2, C4, C6 and C8.
The Mahindra Quanto comes in the price range of Rs. 6.78 lakh to Rs. 8.31 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom New Delhi. The main rivals of the Mahindra Quanto are the Maruti Ertiga, Ford EcoSport, Premier Rio, Nissan evalia and Renault Duster.
ENGINE AND SPECIFICATIONS
The Mahindra Quanto is powered by a 1.5-litre, three cylinder, 1493 cc, 12-valve turbo diesel engine, which is known as mCR100 engine. The mCR100 engine develops a maximum power of 98.6 BHP at 3750 RPM with a peak torque of 240 Nm at 1600 – 2800 RPM. The engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission gearbox.
The Mahindra Quanto offers an ARAI certified mileage of 17.2 km/ litre. The car achieves the 0 to 100 kmph barrier in just 14 seconds with a top speed of 160 kmh. Besides, the Mahindra Quanto has a fuel tank capacity of 55 liters.
EXTERIOR
The Mahindra Quanto has robust body built and it almost resembles the Xylo from the front. Though, the redesigned front grille, more prominent bonnet, roof rails and blackened D pillars differentiate it from the regular Xylo. Besides, with the spare wheel mounted on its tailgate, the rear of the car looks better than the Xylo.
Other features of the Mahindra Quanto include large headlights, powerful fog lamps, six spoke-15 inch alloy wheels, internally adjustable outside mirrors, rear wiper and so on. In addition, the Mahindra Quanto has about 3985 mm length, 1850 mm width and 1880 mm height of dimensions and, at the same time, it has a 180 mm ground clearance of 180 mm and 2760 mm of wheelbase.
The Mahindra Quanto comes in Toredor Red, Mist Silver, Java Brown, Fiery Black, Rocky Beige and Diamond White colour variants.
INTERIOR
The interior of the Mahindra Quanto is also inspired from the Xylo. The SUV is decorated with a sporty and youthful granite theme. The car is much spacious and offers an impressive legroom and headroom. The seats are large and have ample space to stretch legs and sit comfortably. The SUV has two armrests and three levels of the lumbar support for the driver as well as co-passenger seats. Besides, the Mahindra Quanto has a boot space of 690 litres by folding the third row seats.
The Mahindra Quanto comes equipped with four spoke tilt adjustment steering wheel, digital display, power windows, central locking system, 2 DIN music system with USB, SD card and Aux connectivity, reverse parking sensors, AC unit and mobile charging points.
In addition to these, the Mahindra Quanto offers various storage areas such as big and internally lit glove box, magazine pockets, cup holders, five bottle holders, snack trays, storage cubicles in between the driver and co-passenger and under-seat storage.
PERFORMANCE
The suspension of the Mahindra Quanto at the front comprises of independent double wishbones, coil springs with anti-roll bar while at the rear it has five bar link and coils springs therefore, the ride is excellent. Because of front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, braking and handling of the car is good enough.
In terms of safety, the Mahindra Quanto is loaded with many safety features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) coupled with EBD, dual front airbags, Child lock on middle and rear door, intellipark reverse assist, engine immobilizer, front fog lamps, 5 seat belts, rear wash and wiper.
ADVANTAGES
The Mahindra Quanto is the only sub 4-metre car that comes with a 5+2 seating configuration. In addition, with its compact dimensions and tight turning radius, the Mahindra Quanto offers good manoeuvrability.
The SUV has spacious cabin and ample boot space. Besides, the sporty roof rails enhance the style factor and, at the same time, the signature Mahindra front grille gives the car an aggressive look.
DRAWBACKS
The Mahindra Quanto has awkward styling and design, too, is not proportionate. The body roll makes handling sloppy. The Mahindra Quanto does not have keyless entry. The SUV has no traction control also. Moreover, it has congested third row seats.
VERDICT
The competitive pricing of the Mahindra Quanto makes it cheaper than some of the premium hatchbacks. Its powerful engine and high ground clearance are decent. Moreover, the 5+2 seating system of the Mahindra Quanto makes it a perfect family car. On the whole, The Mahindra Quanto is a complete value for money car, nevertheless those who are quality conscious, the SUV may not called the best.
