The Tata Tiago is the mid size premium hatchback from home grown automaker Tata Motors. This latest hatchback is based on an all new XO platform that makes it a smart looking car. The Tata Tiago comes in 16 versions with two engine, one transmission and two fuel options.
The price of the Tata Tiago starts from Rs 3.20 lakhs and goes up to Rs 5.54 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi. The Tata Tiago competes with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Honda Brio, Alto K10, Hyundai Eon, WagonR, Hyundai Grand i10, Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo and Renault Kwid.
ENGINE AND SPECIFICATIONS
The Tata Tiago is available in both the alternatives of petrol and diesel variants. The 1.2 liter, three cylinder, 1199 cc Revotron petrol engine generates 84 bhp of power and 114 Nm of torque at 3500 RPM. While, the 1.5 litre, three cylinder, 1047 cc turbocharged diesel engine churns out 70 bhp of power with the highest torque of 140 Nm at 1800 – 3000 RPM. Both the engines are mated to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox. At the same time, both the engines come with Eco and City driving modes.
In terms of acceleration, the Tata Tiago reaches the 0 – 100 kmph mark in around 16 – 18 seconds with a top speed of 150 km/hr. As far as mileage is concerned, the petrol powered variant of the Tata Tiago delivers a fuel economy of 23.84 kmpl whereas, the diesel powered variant returns an impressive fuel efficiency of 27.28 kmpl, as the company claims. Besides, the Tata Tiago comes with a fuel tank capacity of 35 litres.
EXTERIOR
The Tata Tiago is a handsome looking hatchback. The front grille of the Tata Tiago comes with a honey comb pattern and houses the new 3-D Tata logo. The rear section of the car gets the jewel shaped tail lamps, a rear spoiler and rear windscreen wiper. In addition, the 3 dimensional headlamps with smoked lens and sporty black bezel give the car a premium look. Other attractive features of the car include body coloured door handles, 14 inch alloy wheels, ORVM with LED turn indicators and roof spoiler.
Dimensionally, the Tata Tiago measures 3,746 mm in length, 1,647 mm in width and 1,535 mm in height along with 2,400 mm of wheelbase and 170 mm of ground clearance. Moreover, the car has a turning radius of 4.9 metres.
The Tata Tiago comes with a choice of six attractive and pleasant colours- Berry Red, Espresso Brown, Sunburst Orange, Pearlescent White, Striker Blue and Platinum Silver.
INTERIOR
The Tata Tiago interior is pretty good. The car has roomy cabin and seats are comfortable. The hatchback comes equipped with the best features such as Harman infotainment system with smartphone connection, eight speakers with Bluetooth, turn by turn navigation system, internally adjustable wing mirrors, tinted glasses, driver footrest, height adjustable seats with adjustable headrests, day and night IRVM, folding rear seat, A/C vents and cooled glove box.
Apart from these, the car has plenty of utility spaces like coat hook, tab holder, bottle holders in front and in rear doors, pen holder, card holder, curry hook and ticket holder. At the same time, the Tata Tiago comes with a 242 litres of boot space capacity.
PERFORMANCE
The performance of the Tata Tiago is impressive. The hatchback has a monocoque chassis. The ride of the car is good and the handling is nice too. On the braking front, the Tata Tiago is fitted with ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. At the same time, the car gets an independent suspension with McPherson struts at the front and semi-independent, twist beam with dual path strut at the rear.
In terms of safety, the Tata Tiago comes with a number of active and passive safety features like dual front airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and CSC (Corner Stability Control), seat belt with pretensioners and load limiters, rear parking sensors, speed sensing auto door locks, central locking and engine immobilizer.
ADVANTAGE
The main advantage of the Tata Tiago is its innovative and fresh designing. It is one of the best looking hatchbacks. The cabin of the car is spacious. five passengers can sit comfortably. Moreover, the ride and handling of the car is impressive.
DRAWBACKS
The major drawback of the Tata Tiago is it does not have AMT gearbox, while its rivals come equipped with AMT gearbox. Besides, under thigh support of the rear seats is not up to the mark.
